Welcome to Commission of Railway Saftey

The Commission of Railway Safety, working under the administrative control of the Ministry of Civil Aviation of the Government of India, deals with matters pertaining to safety of rail travel and train operation.Commission is charged with certain statutory functions as laid down in the Railways Act (1989) and The Metro Railway (Operations and Maintenance) Act, 2002. These functions are of an inspectorial, investigatory & advisory nature.

The Commission functions according to certain rules viz. Statutory investigation into accidents rules framed under the Railways Act and executive instructions issued from time to time

Our Mission

  • Advocating robust Safety measures as safety regulatory body through reviews inspections for zero accident tolerance.
  • Contributing towards safe Network Expansion of Rail/metro transport by conducting statutory inspections in expeditious manner focusing on high safety and quality standards.
  • Contributing in Mobility improvements through quality inspection of new rolling stock.
  • Undertaking independent Accident investigations and making recommendations for improving safety to avoid recurrence.
  • Inquire, investigate, and advise operator to act to prevent accident on track.
