ACHEIVEMENTS OF COMMISSION OF RAILWAY SAFETY

  • For the Commission of Railway Safety, which has been in existence for more than 75 years, FY 2017-18 has set new milestones in many respects. Commission of Railway Safety has contributed immensely to Indian Railways progressing steadily towards its targeted infrastructure creation. In order to fulfill its statutory role, the officials of the Commission resorted to round the clock, working whenever required, conducted back, to back, statutory inspections and proactively cooperated with Indian Railways in ensuring completion of all due requirement. In the month of March’18, statutory inspection of more than 1700Km of RE in one month was achieved which was the first in the history of the Commission. In recognition of this contribution of the Commission in supporting IR, the Hon’ble Minister of Railways has awarded the officials of the Commission.
  • In FY 2017-18, Commission completed statutory inspections of more than 4000Kms of Railway Electrification works which is 180% of last year. This was accomplished along with statutory inspections of 1465Kms of Doubling, Additional Lines, New lines and Gauge conversion works. Crossing 4000Kms in Railway Electrification in a year has set a new benchmark for RE works and new milestone towards fulfilling the Vision of the Government i.e. complete Electrification of Railway routes on IR by 2022.
  • This is the best ever performance of the Commission of Railway Safety surpassing all the previous achievements
  • With patch doubling and Electrification in Lucknow Division during FY 17-18, Entire route from Jammu to Howrah is now Double Line Electrified route.
  • Statutory inspection of Doubling on 5 block sections of 41 kms in Alipurduar Division is the highest ever for doubling in a single stretch by any Commissioner which includes New Coochbehar Junction having 286 routes and six directions of traffic. This is only the second time on Indian Railway that EI was installed with different architecture thereby saving huge quantity of almost 1000 Kms of copper cable and provided improved reliability besides other advantages on IR, It is working satisfactorily.
  • Certain critical safety issues in Ghat section working which were pending for almost two decades were resolved with positive contribution from the Commission. In South Western Railway, Castle Rock-Quilon (Braganza ghat) section has steep infringing gradient of 1 in 37 in four station yards and due to its geographical location it is not possible to ease the gradient. Due to this, multiple restrictions were imposed on train movement considerably reducing the line capacity.
  • Repeated requests were being received from the Railways for its relaxation so that growing traffic requirement could be catered to. After detailed deliberation at the highest level and assessment of technical inputs given, it was decided to sufficiently relax the restrictive conditions without compromising safety, leading to the operational bottlenecks being removed. This provided much needed relief for train connectivity to Marmagao Port.
